Diving tours in Cabo Pulmo: the 2-tank dive trip

Two reefs every morning, six divers per guide, five minutes from the beach. The simplest way to dive the most successful marine reserve in the Americas.

The 2-Tank Dive Trip costs $2,800 MXN per certified diver and includes two guided boat dives, tanks, weights, a local bilingual dive master and the surface interval on the boat. Add $600 MXN per day if you need full equipment and $120 MXN per person per day for the National Marine Park fee. Check-in is at 8:30 am; you are back on the beach around 12:30 to 1:00 pm.

What is included

Small groups, big fish

Cabo Pulmo is a small bay with ten dive sites, so there is no long boat ride and no fixed route. Each morning the dive masters read the wind, the current and the sightings from the day before and choose the two best reefs. One day it is the bull sharks at El Vencedor followed by the trevally tornado at Los Morros; the next it is the wall at El Cantil and the swim-throughs of Las Casitas.

  • Two boat dives with a maximum of 6 divers per guide
  • Aluminum 80 tanks, weights and belt
  • Local, bilingual PADI dive master in the water with you
  • Oxygen kit and first-aid on board, trained captain
  • Water and fruit during the surface interval
  • Freshwater rinse tanks and gear storage at the dive shop

Not included: equipment rental, park fee, gratuities (15–20% is customary) and lunch.

The schedule

A typical dive morning in Cabo Pulmo

  1. The evening before

Confirm your spot (online, WhatsApp or at the shop). Tell us your certification level, number of logged dives and date of your last dive so we can group you with similar divers.

  2. 8:30 am · check-in and briefing

Sign the forms, show your certification card, fit your rental gear. The dive master briefs both sites: depth profile, current, what to look for and how we handle the bull sharks (calmly, on the sand, no chasing).

  3. 9:15 am · first dive

We launch from the beach; the panga reaches the site in 5 to 15 minutes. Back-roll entry, descent along the reef, 45 to 55 minutes depending on depth and air.

  4. Surface interval

About an hour on the boat or back at the beach, with water and fruit. Whale watching in winter from the deck.

  5. Second dive

A shallower reef for a long, relaxed profile: Los Morros, El Bajo, Las Casitas or El Islote. Turtles, morays, schools of grunts and porkfish.

  6. 12:30–1:00 pm · back for lunch

Rinse the gear, log the dives, eat at the Coral Reef Restaurant upstairs. Afternoon tanks can be arranged for packages when conditions allow.

Two divers practising skills in the training pool before a refresher session at Cabo Pulmo Dive Center

Refresher session · $600 MXN

Rusty? Get your confidence back before the boat

If it has been more than eight months since your last dive, take the refresher in our on-site pool the afternoon before your trip. It covers mask clearing, regulator recovery, buoyancy and buddy procedures in about two hours and does not include an open-water dive. The same session is the right starting point if you are:

  • A PADI Open Water referral student who wants practice before the certification dives
  • A PADI Scuba Diver upgrading to Open Water Diver
  • A certified diver who simply has not been in the water for a while

Dive trip questions

How much does a dive trip in Cabo Pulmo cost?

Our 2-Tank Dive Trip costs $2,800 MXN per diver. Full equipment rental is $600 MXN per day, and every visitor to the National Marine Park pays a park fee of $120 MXN per person per day. Prices are in Mexican pesos; the online booking system may display US dollars at the exchange rate of the day.

How many divers go on each boat?

We dive in small groups of 6 divers per guide. Our boats can carry up to 32 divers across several groups, so large dive clubs can book together while every group still has its own local, bilingual dive master.

What certification do I need to dive in Cabo Pulmo?

Any entry-level certification (PADI Open Water Diver or equivalent) is enough for most sites, which sit between 15 and 60 feet. La Esperanza and Outer Pulmo are deep reefs (75 to 100 feet) and are reserved for Advanced Open Water divers. If you are not certified, you can join a Discover Scuba Diving experience instead.

I have not dived in more than 8 months. Do I need a refresher?

Yes. If your last dive was more than eight months ago, we ask you to take the $600 MXN refresher session in confined water before your boat dives. It takes a couple of hours, covers the core skills and does not include an open-water dive. It is also the right option for Scuba Diver upgrades and Open Water referral students who want practice first.

What time do dives leave and how long is the trip?

Dive check-in is at 8:30 am at the dive shop, the day after you confirm your booking. The boat ride to most sites is 5 to 15 minutes. A 2-tank trip is back at the beach around 12:30 to 1:00 pm, in time for lunch at the Coral Reef Restaurant.

Do you rent dive gear?

Yes. A full set (BCD, wetsuit, fins, mask and snorkel) is $600 MXN per day. Individual pieces: wetsuit or BCD $200 MXN, regulator $300 MXN, and mask, fins, snorkel or life jacket $100 MXN each per day. Tanks and weights are included in every dive trip.

Why is there a park fee?

Cabo Pulmo is a National Marine Park (established 1995) managed by CONANP. The $120 MXN per person per day fee funds patrols and reef protection. We collect it with your booking.

What are the rules inside the marine park?

No fishing, no touching or standing on the coral, no feeding animals, no gloves, no collecting shells. Reef-safe sunscreen is strongly encouraged. Boats embark outside the core zone and follow fixed mooring and drift lines to avoid anchoring on the reef.
